Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has invested Rs. 2 Crore in online furniture rental startup Furlenco. Unlike most of the funding rounds led by celebrities, Khan won’t be a brand ambassador for the Bengaluru-based company.
Present in six cities in India, Furlenco has about 4,000 monthly consumers purchasing a furniture rental subscription. Khan’s investment comes in Furlenco at a time when it is also picking up small debts at a regular interval, people aware of the matter said. The company competes with the likes of Rentomojo and Pepperfry.
Furlenco earlier had raised $6 million from Lightbox Ventures in March 2015. It claims to clock an average ticket size of Rs 3,000 and is looking to break even by March 2018.
Earlier this month, Delhi-based Rentickle, the lifestyle rental startup had raised $4 million in a fresh round of equity and debt funding led by Ajay Relan, chairman of VC firm CX Partners, and ThinKuvate, a Singapore-based VC firm.
Iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has also made a couple of investments in the startup space which include Smaaash, Smartron India. While earlier this year, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had made his maiden foray into the world of start-ups by investing undisclosed amounts in Mumbai-based entertainment company Flickstree.
